How to Embroidery Your Trip in a Cross Stitch World Map

In 2016 I had a fantastic 6 months trip to New Zealand, Australia, and Japan with my family.
Although time was tight and I didnโ€™t get to do all the things I wanted to, and our plan changed over and over as we discovered more of the region, I was lucky to be able to see it at all.
And when I saw this cross stitch map, back in Rome, I thought what better way to be reminded of a such a memorable trip than by stitching it on a map and framing it on our bedroom. Itโ€™s our inspiration to work hard and plan more wonderful experiences like that fantastic and crazy trip.

How to Embroidery Your Trip in a Cross Stitch World Map

This little project is relatively self-explanatory, but for those of you who are terrified of picking up a needle and thread, like I was, I thought Iโ€™d walk you through it. I’m not an expert, and my stitches aren’t perfect, but I had a lot of fun doing it!

You need:

  • Cross stitch World map
  • Thick thread (pick the colors you like most)
  • Embroidery needles

How to Cross stitch World map:

  1. Thread your needle.
I added two pieces of thread to the needle and then tied the end in a knot so that the red line would be thicker. Start cross-stitching your visited places.
  2. When the areas are full of colors, add the long trip in a different color. For those lines simply junction the departure of the trip with the arrival. For example: from this airport to that airport.

Note 1: I had to use a few different pieces of thread for the whole trip, knotting off the section as I went. Not so pretty at the back but I’m not an expert and, in the end, it worked out!

Note 2: Usually two needles and four colored threads are included in your map. But I didn’t like the colors, so I decided to buy some more intriguing.
