A famous decoration in the 70s, handmade plant holders, it’s back in the late years and is proving a homeware hit.
I draw my Star Pot Hanger after arriving empty in the search for models for simply knitted plant hangers.
The pots are available in all shapes and sizes, with different tapered corners so I wanted a model that can easily be molded into most of them.
This easy knit pattern features a simple star shape and will create a gorgeous display if used for trailing plants, or look fresh and minimalist for growing a succulent.
In my case, I hanger a gorgeous tropical pitcher plant (you can buy the same on Amazon).
Knitted in natural bamboo, is perfect for adding a contemporary feel to a corner in your home.
The Star Pot Hanger is worked in rounds and shaped with increases until the desired numbers of stitches are on the needles for the base. Then each section is knitted in flat with decreases, so it forms a sharp form.
Plus, this pattern takes only a couple of hours to make, it because not very fussy at all, but it has just enough detail to make it pleasing to look at!
A few tips for customizing the Star Pot Hanger to your taste very quickly.
- Make the tassel on the bottom a lot longer, or if you don’t like tassel you can skip this step or make a pom pom instead!
- I love the natural bamboo yarn in contrast with the clay pot, but you can play with colors! Choose one in contrast or one that most fits in your home palette.
- If you don’t like the natural color of your clay pot, and if youโd want to change it, don’t buy another one! Add two layers of your acrylic outdoor paint to your pot. Make sure and paint down a few inches along the inside of the pot, because after you place your plant inside, probably wonโt go to the very tippy top.
- If your pot has a hole in the bottom for drainage, youโll need to cover up that hole if youโre hanging your plant inside. Use a couple of layers of duct tape and pressed it firmly to the bottom.
