Another father’s day? Yes, and another bow tie!
Father’s Day in the United States is on the third Sunday of June. It celebrates the contribution that fathers and father figures make for their children’s lives.
There are many events, which may have inspired the idea of Father’s Day. One of these was the start of the Mother’s Day tradition in the first decade of the 20th century. Another was a memorial service held in 1908 for a large group of men, many of them fathers, who were killed in a mining accident in Monongah, West Virginia in December 1907.
A woman called Sonora Smart Dodd was an influential figure in the establishment of Father’s Day. Her father raised six children by himself after the death of their mother. Sonora was inspired by the work of Anna Jarvis, who had pushed for Mother’s Day celebrations. The first time Father’s Day was held in June was in 1910.
Now let’s talking about the gift: a bow tie!
If Dad wears bow ties, a new one can be an added present.
It’s so easy and fun to make that you might find yourself making one for all the men in your life, and then maybe making one for yourself.
I think the bow tie is a perfect Father’s Day present.

Note: To make an adjustable bow tie, work another repeat from buttonhole row to BO. If you are using alpaca as I did, remember that alpaca will grow! Make your buttonholes a bit earlier to account for a bit of growth.
Nota: per realizzare un papillon regolabile, fai un altro ferro per creare un’asola e all’inizio della cinghia cuci il bottone.
Finishing:
Slide Bow through Knot
Show your dedication to the craft and sport one knit up in alpaca, wool, heck even go traditional and knit up a silk or linen one!
Happy Father’s Day!
