Knitting, crocheting, sewing, and all things fashion have been a way for people to express ourselves since we first started making our own garments. And in recent years there has definitely been a strong emphasis on it.
One of my favorites tags on Instagram is #HandmadeWardrobe, itโs so inspiring to see people all over the world using their hands to create their own handmade wardrobe.
Whether you already have an extensive collection of garments and accessories youโve made for yourself, or youโre just getting started building your handmade wardrobe, I hope youโll express yourself and your fashion sense by knitting at least one new item just for yourself.
Maybe will this be the time you finally make that sweater from your Ravelry queue?
Maybe it will be the time you decide to stop looking for the perfect accessory on every retail rack, and instead, take the steps needed to make one for yourself!
Whatโs on your fashion bucket list? What would it take to learn how to make one?
The last couple of years Iโve been very intentional about my handmade wardrobe and I’m finally in a place where it feels like the best wardrobe for me.
I went through this process when I was planning my handmade wardrobe, and these are my tips:
- Start to look at what you have, what do you have that you love, but doesnโt have anything to coordinate with?
- Find your style. If you are struggling to find your style I completely recommend Pinterest for inspirations.
- Find your holes (something you want but you don’t have/you can’t find in a store) and orphans (items that you love but donโt go with anything).
- Ready to knit! Now you can plan to knit the items that will fill your holes and you can plan items that will coordinate with your orphans.
My last tip? I love having handmade basics to wear that makes my entire wardrobe wearable, and I love to use yarn from my stash.
