If you usually go online, you know that, with the creative output being freely shared, it’s quite easy to find striking creations that could give you that inspiration to create something. And be inspired without copying seems very hard.
Getting inspiration can be a tricky thing
Knowing the difference between getting inspiration and copying can be very tricky, too.
How to be inspired without copying other knit designers
Not copy your idol
You may have this one ultimate idol when it comes to your craft
If you are inspired by the passion, creativity, drive, and spirit, talk and share them! Don’t copy, and don’t try to pass it off as your work. That’s stealing.
We are so much more impactful when we lift each other.
Diversity in your sources of inspiration
Go through a variety of sources to avoid getting stuck. Pull inspiration from the most diverse pieces.
So you can find the best elements from each, and you can start deviating and making your original work from there.
Take a break on inspiration first
It’s better to don’t work on your piece right after you submerge yourself in all those inspirations.
Your brain is simply embedded with a lot of the elements the person used, so don’t dive straight to your work after becoming inspired.
Absorb all the inspiration you can absorb, then take a break. When you start to create, you still have the same amount of inspiration, but you are ready to apply your signature.
Memory details
Memorize the details that you liked so, when you start working on your piece, you can rely only on your memory.
And, because the image is coming from your mind, this means that it has your perception.
From here, it’s easier to make it an original piece.
The time to drop it
Sometimes you feel that your work is just too similar to the actual source of inspiration. Maybe you will have the urge to keep fixing it, and you find it hard to fix it for looking different. In this case, just drop it.
Sometimes, the mind becomes too absorbed with the inspiration that it’s too hard to shake it off.
But you know what, if you use inspiration the right way, it’s ok to be inspired.
Every designer has that something in them that would allow originality to come through.
