PATTERN

Cast on 32 sts
Row 1: * k3, p1; rep from * to the end of the row
Row 2: *k1, p3; rep from * to the end of the row
Repeat rows 1-2 a total of 5 times (10 rows total).
Bind off by running a tapestry needle through the open stitches, cinch closed, and sew the side of the pumpkin.

FINISHING

Starting at the top of the pumpkin, use 1.5 yds / 1.4 m of yarn to sew in WS through the middle bump of the knit rows and the bottom bump, then again from bottom to top, to create intermittent creases to get an authentic pumpkin feel. Pull tight at the end and fill with polyfill (or scrap yarn). Whipstitch the bottom to cinch it closed and pull tight, passing it from the bottom hole of the pumpkin to the upper hole. Secure it to four stitches on the top..

STEM

Use a scrap piece (about 4″/10 cm) of twine or wool and make a knot. Insert the knot inside the hole at the top of the pumpkins for stems.
