US 8 – 5 mm 16”/40cm circular needle, or long circular for magic loop, or DPNS.

YARN
Yarn: Lace weight
I used: Hobbii Friends Kid Silk in color 07 (219 yds / 200 m; 72% Mohair, 25% Silk, 3% Wool)

YARDAGE
approx. 109 yds / 100 m

GAUGE
20 stitches and 24 rounds = 4″ / 10 cm in Stockinette st

GLOSSARY

Picot cast on:
Step 1: CO 6 sts using Knitted Cast-On Method. (For the first time ONLY cast on 6 sts, after that CO 4sts)
Step 2: K2.
Step 3: BO 1 on your right-hand needle by slipping the far-right stitch over the second stitch on the needle.
Step 4: K1 (2sts on your right-hand needle.)
Step 5: BO 1 (1st on the right-hand needle.)
Step 6: Slip the right-hand needle stitch onto the left needle.
Repeat steps 1 – 6 (CO4, k2, BO1, k1, BO1, sl 1, etc) until you have the required number of CO sts.

Picot Bind-off:
Step 1. With RS facing, using the knitted cast-on method, CO 2 stitches.
Step 2. Using a standard bind-off, bind off 4 sts.
Step 3. Slip the remaining stitch on your right-hand needle back to your left needle, being careful not to twist the stitches.
Finish your picot bind off by repeating steps 1-3 until 1 stitch remains. BO remaining stitch.

Directions

Beginning – PICOT:
Cast on 60 (72, 76, 84, 92, 96, 100, 104, 108) sts using the picot cast-on method. (Instructions on page 3)
Place BOR m and join in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.

Body
Rnd 1: *K2tog, YO; rep from * to end.
Rnd 2: Knit
Rnd 3: Purl
Rnd 4: *K2, p2; rep from * to end.

Continue working rnd 4 until your work measures approx 2 (2.5, 2.5, 3, 3.15, 3.15, 3.5, 3.5, 4)”/ 5 (6, 6, 7.5, 8, 8, 8.5, 8.5, 10) cm from the purl round (rnd 3), or 11 (14, 14, 17, 19, 19, 20, 20, 23) rounds, or until you reach your desired height.

Ending
Rnd 1: Purl
Rnd 2: Knit
Rnd 3: *K2tog, YO; rep from * to end.

Finishing
Weave in ends and block the Vanilla Hairband to finished measurements.
