Two Ways to make these Easy DIY Leaf Garlands

leaves garland

I made these cute leaf garlands to use some of my scrap yarn and decorate my mantel for autumn!

I created these yesterday and felt like I had missed posting them for the fall season. But I rationalized that while these were perfect for late September, you can use them for Halloween and Thanksgiving, add string lights, or even use them as headbands.
The single leaves are perfect for making ornaments, topping a gift, or putting inside a bowl on a coffee table.
Pretty versatile.

I used two different Needle sizes to make these knitted leaf garlands.
You can work in a thick woolen yarn to make bulky leaf garlands, or with fine yarn to make leaf garlands with an organic vibe. Bonus idea: use a metallic yarn for a perfect Christmas garland!
By the way, there really are endless variations!

I offer step-by-step instructions in pdf form in my Ravelry and suggestions to make these knitted leaves with just about any yarn!

Cord

With three strands held together, start to tie them and/or secure them at the end to something like a desk or a chair.
Begin to twist them and continue twisting. Once they begin to twist on themselves, continue until youโ€™ve reached your desired look. Tie the end together and remove the secured end as well, ensuring both ends are tied with a knot. Cut the ends and trim so they are even and hang your leaves.

I hope youโ€™ll enjoy knitting a little bit of fall this year!
This is such an easy and pretty holiday DIY project that you can place leaf garlands anywhere around your house!
I think it would also look amazing around a front door, with a lovely wreath to top it all off.
