Living in a home when you don’t have a foyer can be a little bit demoralizing when it comes to decorating. All that fantastic inspiration you see on Pinterest most often relies on big spaces and can be a bit unrealistic for you.
The challenge, therefore, is how to take inspiration and make that work in your space!
In the real world, I don’t have a foyer – you open the door into a narrow and small corridor with a small walk-in closet, and a window. But there’s no actual space in which to place keys and mail, it’s an empty space, and I was going to have to get smart about it.

1. Wallcovering
As a way to define the space, use a large-scale geometric or boldly colored chinoiserie wallpaper on the walls and ceiling.
Removable wallpaper is a great idea if you’re in a rent.

2. Use a rug
If you’re dealing with a foyer that’s just a wall, setting down a rug makes it feel like a separate entryway. Get one that’s easy to clean and full of colors, perfect for hidden spots of dirty shoes.

3. Lighting fixture
A bold pendant or modern chandelier can make a room feel larger and taller and also make a memorable first impression.
Mount a little nearly invisible swag hook on the ceiling, loop this cord over it, and plug it in.

4. Paint the door
To define and draw attention to space, paint the door in your favorite color.

5. Hang a mirror
A mirror by the front door is not just for checking your outfit on your way out the door, It helps make the space feel bigger and brighter. Get it oversized!

6. Add plants
Add some life to your entry with plants or succulents. Choose a colorful planter or hanging planter to make more of an impact. No need to make room for this little hanging planter.

7. Make it a gallery wall
Adding a gallery wall is a simple way to personalize when you don’t have a foyer. You can add family photos, inspirational quotes, or beautiful prints, to express your unique style.

8. Hang a little shelf
A little shelf is perfect for dropping keys.
Find one with extra storage or install one to maximize your wall space.

9. Find a mail sorter.
One of the biggest entryway pains has to be the ever-expanding pile of mail.
This teeny landing strip from Dezeen is little more than a spot to stash mail and keys!

10. Mount wall hooks
Having a hook if you don’t have space for your coat is a must.
Take a simple dowel-style coat hook and multiply it, creating a sort of giant pegboard that can hold up a small shelf, too.
