What have in common FabFitFun and Marie Kondo?

mariekondo

FabFitFun and Marie Kondo, what a powerful combination! FabFitFun gets my things organized, and Marie Kondo has taught me a method!

If youโ€™re not familiar, with the KonMari Method, basically itโ€™s a technique that focuses on organizing by category rather than location โ€” starting with clothes, books, papers, komono (miscellaneous items), and sentimental items.
She advises her clients to keep the items that speak to the heart and let go of those that no longer spark joy.

I ditched the yarn I donโ€™t use

โ€œSparking joyโ€ is what the KonMari Method is all about. The trick is to hold each item one by one. If it gives you a warm and positive feeling, keep it.
It involves being mindful of every skein, and only bringing in new skeins that are truly deserving of time, attention, and resources.
So I pulled all my stashes out and studied what I have.
I have skeins bought two years ago, I love them, and I want to be sure they match up with just the right project. And then what happened? Iโ€™m not in love anymore. Note for me: If I love a specific yarn, donโ€™t stress, use it!
I don’t force myself to work from your stash if I can’t find the right fit.
I forced myself to get real about the things I do and the things I donโ€™t. In the end, what remains are indeed the craft supplies I use, know I will use, or genuinely love!

Organizing my yarn stash

Use my fabfitfun boxes is a clever idea that came from this post. Each season, FabFitFun features a different design for their box, so, instead of breaking the bank on plastic containers, like I used to do before, I utilize all my old FabFitFun boxes to keep my skeins organized.
After clearly eliminating the joyless yarn, I organized in a way that inspires my creativity.
So I sat down and divided by fiber, then arranged by color.
In a few minutes, I have a perfect yarn dispenser. It allows me to pull what I need and nothing more, keeping everything nice and neat.
I love that I can to close the boxes and conceal the yarn when it’s not in use.

I become a true stash minimalist, and I only get yarn for a project I’m about to work on. I have pulled out current projects and divided into two bags so I can see what Iโ€™m working on.
