How to knit a vase cover that fit perfectly

One of my favorite ways to show off a piece of knitting is to hold in front of the light, which exposes the structure of the stitches perfectly.
Making a vase cover, or a jar cover or pot cover does it brilliantly and pushes knit in the cozy direction.

Knit a vase cover

You can make your bespoke vase cover as I did.
You have to choose a stitch or create a stripe you like, and the best way to do that is to play around with different yarns and stitches, you can use my 52 weeks of stitches as a start.
I recommend you to choose a stitch and knit a gauge before everything, you will need it to start designing your own vase!

Take measure

First, take your vase and measure the circumference.
Multiply this by your chosen stitch’s gauge (I told you!).
For instance: an 8 inch (20 cm) circumference vase with a gauge of 5 stitches per inch.
8 x 5 = 40
So you’ll need to cast on 40 stitches? No, 36. Why?
Because to make this cling to the vase you have to deduct 10 percent of the stitches (so for 40 stitches required you have to cast on only 36).
Follow your own knit stitch instructions until you’ve got a long enough piece and bind off when you want.
If you use circular needles I recommend the magic loop method and you will have the privilege to literally hold the piece around the vase and see how it looks as you go along.
For straight needles, when you are ready sew up the side seam and pull the cover onto your vase.

My readymade knitting pattern

The vase cover shown in the picture uses a combination of knit and purl stitches and is a good way to start.
